Internal Family Systems understands us as an inner family of parts guided by a calm, compassionate core Self. Dance Movement Therapy brings the wisdom of the body and expressive movement into that process.
Together they create a respectful, creative, and embodied approach to working with trauma, anxiety, depression, and long-standing life patterns.
Dance Movement Therapy is a relational and expressive form of psychotherapy that uses movement, gesture, posture, rhythm, and stillness as pathways for awareness and change.
Through careful observation of movement patterns such as breathing, posture, facial expression, and rhythm, deeper emotional and psychological experiences become visible.
As a dance movement therapist, I use kinesthetic empathy and movement invitations to help clients explore how their inner parts express themselves physically.
Movement becomes a language through which parts and Self can communicate, reorganize, and heal.

Over time these experiences help reorganize old trauma responses and attachment patterns while supporting the development of greater resilience and Self-leadership.
When we integrate IFS and Dance Movement Therapy, physical intelligence becomes a powerful ally in healing. The nervous system begins to recognize new experiences of safety, respect, and connection.
Physical intelligence is the body’s natural capacity to sense, respond, and learn through movement and embodied experience.
In IFS therapy, parts often need space to tell their story.
Dance Movement Therapy allows this story to emerge through simple gestures and movements.
One example is the “hand dance,” where one hand represents a wounded part and the other represents the calm presence of Self.
As the hands move and interact, a new relational exchange develops between Self and the part.
Clients often notice subtle shifts in sensation, emotion, and understanding.
These simple movements can help the nervous system re-pattern old wounds and bring parts into present time where healing can occur.

Internal Family Systems provides a compassionate map of our inner world of parts and Self.
Dance Movement Therapy offers an embodied language through which those parts can express themselves and transform.
Together they honor both the inner emotional experience and the body’s wisdom.
This integration allows healing to unfold through thought, sensation, imagination, movement, and relationship.
